The NDIS is about giving people choice and control. This means you can make your own decisions about the help you receive. For example, you can select who cleans your home or who supports you at work.

A Story: Sarah's Journey
Sarah is 22 years old. Initially, she could not choose her support workers. Now, Sarah can:
Pick the worker she likes.
Choose her preferred times.
Change her support if needed.
This gives Sarah freedom, flexibility, and dignity.

Good News: More Choice and Control
In 2025, 81% of people over 15 years old said the NDIS helped them have more choice and control. This is a significant increase from earlier years, where only 67% felt this way. Young people aged 15–24 also showed improvement, rising from 61% when they started to over 70% after two years. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare reports that 4 out of 5 people now enjoy more choice and control than before.
Why is This Happening?
Changes to the NDIS are making things better. Here are some key factors:
Clearer Rules
New laws clarify what the NDIS will pay for and what it will not.
Better Safeguards
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission ensures providers respect people’s rights and reduce restrictive practices.
Stronger Future
The NDIS is becoming more stable. People can feel confident that support will still be available in the future.

What Does This Mean for You?
The NDIS is getting better and fairer. More people now feel in charge of their lives. This empowerment helps with:
Joining the community.
Finding work.
Living independently.
The Importance of Choice and Control
Choice and control are essential for personal growth. They allow individuals to shape their lives according to their preferences. When you have the power to make decisions, you feel more engaged and motivated. This leads to a better quality of life.
Building Independence
Independence is a crucial aspect of the NDIS. With the right support, you can live the life you want. Whether it's choosing your support worker or deciding how to spend your day, every choice counts.
Community Engagement
Engaging with your community is vital for personal development. The NDIS encourages participation in social activities. This helps build connections and fosters a sense of belonging.
Employment Opportunities
Having control over your support can lead to better employment opportunities. When you choose the right support, you can focus on your job and career goals. This not only enhances your skills but also boosts your confidence.
In Summary
Choice and control are stronger than ever. The NDIS is working better, and people with disabilities have more power to shape the lives they want. The improvements in the system reflect a commitment to ensuring that everyone can enjoy their rights and freedoms.
